Anxiety impacts a large portion of our population and it can look and take different forms in various segments of the population. Traditionally, anxiety and panic attacks are what most think about when they hear anxiety but it can also include avoidance and OCD like behaviors and more.
Our perspective to mental health and anxiety includes various approaches and considerations and it is why we have a multidisciplinary team and approach in our practice for our community. At the end of the day, the approach to best serve someone impacted by anxiety may include a combination of interventions to best support the underpinnings of anxiety.
In this podcast we discuss and review the neurological structures of the brain commonly associated with anxiety in research. We discuss the basic neurological benefit to having these neurological structures in place to when this becomes maladaptive.
We discuss trauma and the importance to understand its role in the plasticity of anxiety in the brain and the importance to having healthcare providers on your team to address this aspect of it.
We also deep dive into some of the biochemistry and physiology that can have major influences into the threat perception of the brain and what lab testing may look like when starting to look at this aspect to supporting brain chemistry and physiology. We also touch on genetics and nutritional genomic impacts and how single nucleotide polymorphisms can impact your brain and biochemistry.

At the end of the day we want to advocate to making sure those suffering with anxiety, panic attacks and mood disorders have all the pieces to help them get well and from what our multidisciplinary team often sees, this is too often not the case.
